The United States Government has congratulated Nigeria on its 66th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the US Department of State, the American government said it valued its relationship with Nigeria and appreciated the substantive dialogue between both countries over the past year.

“Our two nations are bound by a shared commitment to continued progress on our common priorities, rooted in mutual democratic principles, the protection of religious freedom, a growing commercial relationship, and a commitment to fostering peace and security,” it said.

The US Government also expressed hope that Nigeria would continue to enjoy peace, unity, prosperity and stability in the years ahead.

“May this proud nation and its people thrive in peace, unity, prosperity, and hope for generations to come,” the statement added.
