Three oil tankers flying the Liberian flag were struck by unknown projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, according to shipping intelligence service Marisks.
The incident was reported on Wednesday, October 1, 2026. Marisks said the vessels had switched off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders to avoid detection while passing through the strategic waterway.
The affected vessels were the oil products tanker Al Ruwais, the very large crude carrier Mersin Prosperity, and the Aframax-sized tanker Sinbad.
Data from Kpler showed that Al Ruwais had conducted a ship-to-ship transfer off Sohar, Oman, in late September to discharge diesel cargo. Mersin Prosperity had also transferred about two million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude to another vessel off Sohar in mid-September.
Sinbad, meanwhile, loaded refined petroleum products at Saudi Arabia’s Jubail industrial port earlier in September.
ADNOC Logistics & Services, which manages Al Ruwais and Mersin Prosperity, declined to comment on the incidents, while Sinbad’s manager, Anglo-Eastern Tanker Management, had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
The identities of those responsible for the attacks and the extent of any damage to the vessels were not immediately disclosed.
