The United States has urged its citizens in nine Middle Eastern countries to exercise heightened vigilance amid growing regional tensions and the risk of a rapid escalation in fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
US diplomatic missions in Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Jordan issued security alerts on September 19, warning that the security environment remains complex and could deteriorate unexpectedly.
The alerts highlighted the ongoing Saudi-Houthi conflict, including attacks affecting civilian airports, and warned that the military confrontation could “escalate rapidly.”
The US missions also warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions as tensions increase across the region.
They further cautioned that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target US interests or locations associated with American citizens overseas.
US citizens were advised to closely monitor airline and airport operations, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
