Trump Confirms ‘Very Good’ US-Iran Talks at UN

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American officials held a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, describing the talks as “very good.”

Trump said Washington and Tehran could reach an agreement after the US midterm elections, while Iran has reportedly conveyed conditions for ending the war through Qatar, including an end to hostilities on all fronts.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also confirmed that he held lengthy discussions with the Iranian delegation.

Meanwhile, Qatar has urged continued diplomacy, saying negotiations are the only way to resolve the regional crisis. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said Doha remains committed to mediation alongside countries including Pakistan and Oman.

French President Emmanuel Macron also said France was prepared to become more involved in efforts to facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. He said the main objective was to find an agreement that would restore transit through the waterway and help address the global energy crisis.

Shipping traffic through the Strait remains low, with three commodity vessels crossing on Tuesday, compared with a 10-day average of about 15 vessels per day.

The developments come as diplomatic efforts intensify at the UN General Assembly amid the continuing US-Israel war on Iran and wider regional tensions.
