A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have died following an alleged domestic dispute at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community of Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 25, when an argument between the couple allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to residents, Adenike was found unconscious and seriously injured inside the house, while her husband was reportedly missing from the scene.
A former Chairman of the Community Development Association, Adejimi Olawumi, said residents responded after hearing cries for help. He said they found the woman lying in a pool of blood and began searching for her husband after discovering that he was not at home.
Olawumi said residents later learned that Odukoya had been struck by a vehicle in the Ifo area of Ogun State. Police reportedly took him to a hospital, where his identity was confirmed.
The evangelist’s younger sister also claimed in a video circulating online that the couple had experienced repeated disagreements. She said they had previously sought help after an altercation in April, with the matter eventually being resolved at a police station.
The woman reportedly died on the day of the incident, while Odukoya was buried on Wednesday, September 2. Burial rites were also performed by some clerics.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident and said an investigation was ongoing.
Police spokesperson Opeyemi Oluborode said, “The police is investigating the incident.”
