Minneapolis Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Three Police Officers Wounded

A shooting in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, has left at least two people dead and several others injured, including three police officers.

Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building shortly after 4:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday. When they entered the high-rise, they found several victims.

One person died at the scene, while another victim later died at a hospital. Four civilians were taken to hospital for treatment.

Three police officers were also hospitalised. Two of them suffered gunshot wounds, while the third officer sustained another type of injury. All three officers were reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the suspected gunman also died, although authorities had not immediately determined how he was killed. Investigators had yet to establish a motive for the attack.

Video shared on social media showed heavily armed police officers surrounding an apartment building near the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed gratitude to emergency responders and said state officials were assisting local law enforcement.

The Minneapolis shooting occurred on the same day as another shooting at Westwood Hills Elementary School in Waynesboro, Virginia, where a 19-year-old gunman reportedly wounded a staff member before taking his own life.

The incidents came days after separate mass shootings in Chicago and Trenton, New Jersey, which together left at least three people dead and 18 others wounded.
