The United Nations says 907 humanitarian workers were killed, injured or kidnapped in 2025, making it the worst year on record for attacks against aid workers.
Of those affected, 350 were killed, slightly below the 387 deaths recorded in 2024.
Gaza remained the deadliest place for humanitarian workers for the third consecutive year, with 186 aid workers killed in 2025, followed by Sudan.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the level of violence as “appalling” and urged countries to respect international humanitarian law and hold perpetrators accountable.
The UN also warned that the growing use of cheap, adaptable armed drones has increased risks for aid workers, with humanitarian convoys in Sudan and Ukraine repeatedly coming under attack.
Aid organisations have called for stronger protection for humanitarian personnel as funding for relief operations continues to decline.
