UK Expands Global Talent Visa to More Than 100 Companies

The United Kingdom has expanded its Global Talent visa programme, allowing more than 100 research-focused companies to recruit outstanding scientists, engineers, and researchers from around the world in a bid to boost innovation, scientific research, and economic growth.

According to the UK government, the expanded scheme now enables exceptional researchers working on funded projects to be sponsored by eligible private research companies, in addition to universities, academic institutions, and independent research organisations.

Among the companies added to the programme are AstraZeneca, Jaguar Land Rover, Added Value Solutions (AVS), Denroy Plastics, and Ffilm Cymru.

The government said the Global Talent visa has already helped more than 12,500 researchers from over 130 countries build careers in the UK through the endorsed funder pathway.

The expansion is expected to attract more international experts to key sectors such as clean energy, life sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing, quantum technology, and the creative industries.

UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, said the country remains a global destination for top talent and that the policy would make it easier for innovative companies to recruit world-class researchers who can develop future technologies, medicines, and industries while supporting economic growth and creating skilled jobs.

Professor Christopher Smith, UK Research and Innovation's International Talent and Skills Champion, described the visa as an important tool for advancing knowledge, improving lives, and driving economic development. He said the expansion would spread these benefits across more sectors and regions of the UK.

Industry leaders also welcomed the move, saying it would strengthen Britain's ability to compete globally by attracting highly skilled professionals in fields such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and quantum computing. They noted that easier access to international expertise would help innovative businesses grow faster and accelerate scientific breakthroughs.
