Three children have been found dead inside the residence of a female native doctor in Umuduba Village, Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victims, believed to be between the ages of six and 15, were discovered in the home of a woman popularly known in the community as an Ezenwanyi and prophetess.
According to reports, a fourth child was rescued alive following the intervention of the President-General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of the Ogidi Division. The survivor was rushed to a hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The suspect was taken into police custody after officers arrived at the scene with the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Stanley Nkwoka.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the Anambra State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the children's deaths.
Ikenga also confirmed that the female suspect is in police custody and assisting with the investigation.
The Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathized with the Ideani community. It also urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow investigators to complete their work.
