President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road, a major federal infrastructure project valued at ₦178 billion.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani representing the President. During the event, the governor recalled Tinubu's visit to Birnin Gwari in December 2022, when the area was facing serious security challenges and widespread bandit attacks.
According to Governor Sani, President Tinubu had promised residents that his administration would rehabilitate the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and improve security across the area. He said the commencement of the project demonstrates the government's commitment to fulfilling those pledges.
The governor noted that the highway is an important transport corridor linking the North-West to other parts of the country, including Lagos, and is expected to improve trade, transportation, and economic activities.
He also praised the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for supporting the project's approval and implementation. Governor Sani added that the security situation in Birnin Gwari has improved significantly, allowing residents and commuters to travel without police escorts.
The Kaduna State Government is also constructing 36 kilometres of roads connecting 72 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area to boost agricultural production and rural development.
Governor Sani further highlighted other ongoing federal projects in Kaduna State, including the approved Kaduna Light Rail Project and the construction of the Western and Eastern Bypass roads.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Works David Umahi described President Tinubu as a leader who honours his promises and is committed to delivering infrastructure projects across all regions of Nigeria. He also commended Governor Sani for promoting peace, unity, and development throughout Kaduna State.
