Nigeria Police operatives attached to the National Central Bureau of INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, have rescued two Colombian nationals who were allegedly lured to Nigeria and held captive by a human trafficking syndicate.
The victims, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were rescued after INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Bogotá provided actionable intelligence on August 26, 2026.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the women were allegedly deceived into travelling to Nigeria, where they were held against their will and had their travel documents confiscated.
The police launched a covert tracking operation after receiving the intelligence and located the victims at a hideout in Lagos on the same day.
The suspects, reportedly Chinese nationals, fled the location after noticing the approaching police team.
The police said efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest all members of the alleged trafficking syndicate.
The rescued women are currently in police custody and receiving necessary support.
The Colombian Embassy in Accra is also working with the National Central Bureau to arrange accommodation and emergency travel documents for the victims so they can safely return to Bogotá.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting residents and strengthening international cooperation to combat cross-border crimes and human trafficking.
Authorities said investigations and efforts to dismantle the trafficking network are ongoing.
