FG Urges Nigerian Industries to Hire Skilled Graduates from Kaduna Institute

The Federal Government has called on industries across Nigeria to recruit skilled workers from the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development rather than relying on foreign labour.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the appeal on Thursday during the institute’s maiden graduation ceremony at its Balarabe Musa Campus in Rigachukun, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje, the minister urged Nigerian industries to take advantage of the skills being acquired by graduates of the institute.

Alausa expressed concern that Nigeria continues to depend on skilled workers from other West African countries and Asian nations, including welders, scaffolders, integrity testers and construction workers.

He said it was unacceptable for the country to import skilled labour when Nigerian institutions were producing young people with the necessary technical skills.

The minister commended Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for establishing the institute as a major skills-development hub. He also disclosed that the institute had developed 14 training manuals covering different trade areas, which have now been approved for use nationwide.

According to him, the institute has also received accreditation from the NBTE and has been equipped with facilities that compare favourably with leading skills-acquisition centres in Nigeria.

Alausa linked the initiative to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises youth empowerment through vocational and technical training.

A total of 5,050 trainees graduated from the institute during the ceremony.

The minister congratulated the graduates and announced that the NBTE had designated them as Uba Sani Skills Ambassadors (USSA).

He urged them to encourage other young Nigerians to acquire vocational and technical skills and to help expand opportunities for skills development across the country.
