United States President Donald Trump has pledged to identify and prosecute individuals responsible for leaking information about the country's military weapons stockpiles, following reports that key missile supplies have been significantly depleted during the ongoing US-Israel war involving Iran.
Speaking on Thursday, Trump dismissed claims that the US military is facing a strategic disadvantage, insisting that America still possesses substantial munitions reserves. He also said new weapons are being produced at a rapid pace and that additional supplies are being delivered as needed.
"The United States has massive amounts of munitions," Trump said, adding that those responsible for leaking classified information would face severe legal consequences.
The comments came after Reuters, CBS News and CNN reported that the US military had used a large portion of its Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), Patriot interceptors and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors during months of fighting.
Military analysts have warned that replacing some of the depleted missile stockpiles could take several years and may weaken the country's ability to respond quickly to future conflicts.
Trump also defended Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after reports claimed the president confronted him over the reported shortage of weapons during a recent Cabinet meeting. Trump rejected the report, describing it as false, and expressed confidence in Hegseth's leadership of the Pentagon.
Meanwhile, security experts continue to warn that dwindling supplies of advanced air defence missiles could reduce US military readiness and increase risks if another major conflict erupts before stockpiles are restored.
