Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has advised the 1,500 couples participating in the state's 2026 mass wedding programme to build their marriages on trust, patience, mutual respect, and the fear of Allah.
The governor gave the advice during an orientation programme organised by the Kano State Hisbah Board at the Coronation Hall in Kano as part of activities leading up to the mass wedding ceremony.
Represented by the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, Yusuf described marriage as a sacred institution that requires commitment, compassion, and understanding from both husband and wife.
He urged the prospective couples to remain faithful to one another, show patience during difficult times, and resolve disagreements through peaceful dialogue rather than conflict.
According to the governor, stable families are the foundation of peaceful communities, stressing that both spouses must fulfil their responsibilities to ensure successful and lasting marriages.
The orientation featured lectures from Islamic scholars and professionals on topics including the importance of marriage in Islam, the rights and responsibilities of spouses, conflict resolution, legal matters, health, and family life.
As part of the government's support package, each groom will receive 10 yards of shadda fabric, a cap, a bag of rice, and a jerrycan of cooking oil to help them begin married life.
Each bride will receive ₦200,000 for dowry and business support, along with household items such as a bed, mattress, wardrobe, dressing mirror, blankets, bed sheets, and a centre rug.
The mass wedding activities will continue until Sunday. Wedding ceremonies are scheduled to take place on Friday at the Central Jumu'ah Mosque in Kano and simultaneously across the headquarters of the state's 44 local government areas, with the programme concluding on Sunday with the distribution of household furniture and other support materials to the newly married couples.
