The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced a major economic pressure campaign targeting Iran, with the aim of cutting off the country’s financial lifelines around the world.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the measures on Monday, saying Washington would target all of Iran’s sources of revenue, including oil exports.
“Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” Bessent said.
He also warned companies, countries and other entities involved in business with Iran to stop purchasing Iranian oil and conducting commercial transactions with Tehran.
The announcement marks a significant escalation in the US economic campaign against Iran, as Washington seeks to put further financial pressure on the Iranian government.
