An Israeli air strike hit a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians near Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, early Monday, killing at least one person and injuring several others, according to Palestinian officials.
The Israeli military said it had targeted two people it described as militants in the Deir al-Balah area. The army alleged that one of them, Mohammed Abdul Nasser Jaber Abu Asad, was a member of Hamas’s military wing and had participated in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
The military also claimed the two men had been involved in efforts to carry out attacks against Israeli forces and civilians and to rebuild Hamas’s military capabilities, describing their activities as violations of the ceasefire.
The latest strike comes despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing Hamas’s disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
On Sunday, three Palestinians, including a four-year-old child, were reportedly killed in Israeli strikes in Khan Younis and the Deir al-Balah area. Two other Palestinians who had previously been wounded also died from their injuries.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 1,288 Palestinians have been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.
The ministry said the overall death toll since the war began in October 2023 has reached 73,422, while 174,401 people have been wounded.
