President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries following the discovery of another fake agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
The suspended permanent secretaries are M.S. Danjuma, Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah.
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this on Friday after briefing President Tinubu for the second time in two days.
According to Aliyu, the newly uncovered organisation, known as the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, had been allocated office space within the OSGF without legal authority or presidential approval.
He said the discovery was made during the ICPC's ongoing investigation into the previously exposed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which President Tinubu had ordered the commission to investigate.
Aliyu identified George Buchi Nwabueze as the promoter of the fake office and said he had allegedly operated under several variations of his name, including George Nathan, George Nathan Nwabueze, Honourable George Buchi Nwabueze, Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and George Nwabueze.
The ICPC chairman also said the commission had identified suspected collaborators within the OSGF and was working with the office to obtain further information concerning the fake agency.
Following the latest findings, President Tinubu directed the immediate arrest of Nwabueze and the suspension of the three permanent secretaries.
The development is the latest in a widening investigation that began after the exposure of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Its alleged director-general, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, is currently facing prosecution over accusations of forgery and impersonation.
An ICPC interim report submitted to President Tinubu on August 6 after a 30-day investigation had also revealed two other allegedly fictitious organisations: the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public-Private Partnership.
The National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office is therefore the fourth allegedly fake agency uncovered since the investigation into the PFIFC began.
