Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday called for an end to the months-long war between Iran and the United States, saying Tehran was now in a position of strength.
Pezeshkian said it would be better to end the conflict while Iran remained in a position of “power and dignity.” He also accused the United States of attacking schools, hospitals and other infrastructure, describing Washington as widely disliked around the world.
His comments came after Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States of “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity” following Washington’s announcement that it would intensify sanctions against Tehran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said those responsible for the sanctions should face trial and punishment, describing the measures as serious violations.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington’s sanctions campaign was aimed at putting enough pressure on Iran to cause the country’s regime to collapse.
China also criticised the US approach. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said sanctions and pressure would not help resolve the Middle East conflict.
China called on all parties involved to act responsibly and seek a solution through political and diplomatic means.
The conflict has continued for nearly six months, with tensions between Tehran and Washington remaining high amid escalating economic and diplomatic pressure.
