Vice President Kashim Shettima has encouraged both local and international investors to invest in Nigeria, saying the country's improving economy offers significant opportunities that may become more costly in the future.
Speaking at the opening of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba, Shettima said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu's administration have strengthened investor confidence, improved macroeconomic stability, and created a more attractive environment for long-term investments.
He stressed that every Nigerian state has unique economic advantages and should compete to attract businesses that generate jobs, boost industrial growth, and improve living standards.
The Vice President also noted that fiscal reforms have increased revenue allocations to states, enabling them to pursue major development projects. He pointed to recent positive assessments from international credit rating agencies as signs that confidence in Nigeria's economy is steadily improving.
Shettima described Delta State as one of the country's leading investment destinations, citing its strategic coastline, seaports, abundant natural gas resources, agricultural potential, solid minerals, and opportunities in the blue economy.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced that the state has committed $100 million in Viability Gap Funding to support strategic private-sector projects and encourage industrial development. He added that Delta has introduced tax incentives, eased business regulations, and reserved over 12,000 hectares of land for commercial agriculture to attract investors.
Delivering the keynote address, World Trade Organisation Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala urged Delta State to capitalize on the African Continental Free Trade Area, global supply chain shifts, and Nigeria's ongoing economic reforms to become a major industrial hub.
Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo said Nigeria's macroeconomic environment has become more stable and called for stronger economic cooperation among states to drive investment.
Other speakers, including business leaders Tony Elumelu, Julius Rone, and Ramos Olukayode, highlighted Delta State's vast energy resources and investment potential, while reaffirming their commitment to supporting the state's economic development through partnerships in power, gas, and industrial projects.
