Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron attended the closing ceremony of the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Paris on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The event brought together some of the world’s leading esports competitors, covering a wide range of activities from video games to chess. It was held outside Saudi Arabia for the first time.
The first two editions of the Esports World Cup were hosted in Riyadh. However, the uncertain geopolitical situation in the region led organizers to move the 2026 event to Paris.
More than 2,000 players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries participated in the competition, which began on July 3.
Chinese team All Gamers defeated Saudi Arabia’s Team Falcons, the two-time champions, to win the video-game competition.
During the ceremony, President Macron met with leading gamers and presented trophies to some of the winners.
The tournament was broadcast to 160 countries through streaming platforms, OTT partners and other digital services. Organizers are expected to produce around 7,000 hours of live programming throughout the competition.
The Esports World Cup is expected to return to Riyadh in 2027.
