Qatari Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi made the commitment during a visit to Benghazi, where he met Khalifa Haftar, commander of the eastern-based Libyan National Army.
Libya has been politically divided since 2014, with the internationally recognised Government of National Unity based in Tripoli and an eastern administration backed by Haftar.
During the meeting, al-Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Libya’s unity and sovereignty and called for continued dialogue and reconciliation among Libyan factions.
Qatar also said it would continue working with Libyan political leaders and supporting United Nations efforts to reach a comprehensive political agreement.
The visit comes after Libyan negotiators recently agreed on an initial election pact aimed at ending years of political division. The proposed agreement would revise laws governing presidential and parliamentary elections and set a 24-month deadline for holding the polls.
However, significant challenges remain, including disagreements among political factions, divided state institutions, legal uncertainties and a lack of trust between rival groups.
The United Nations has described the election pact as an important step, although its implementation is expected to be difficult.
