PDP Rejects Uba Sani’s Claim Over Kaduna’s ₦6.7bn Debt Deductions

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Governor Uba Sani for blaming former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the state’s ₦6.7 billion monthly debt deductions.

In a statement, PDP Kaduna Chairman Edward Percy Masha said Governor Sani should take responsibility for the $350 million World Bank loan he helped secure while serving as Senator representing Kaduna Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking.

Masha recalled that in March 2020, Sani played a leading role in the 9th Senate’s approval of the loan after it had been rejected by the 8th Senate.

He said Sani had previously defended the loan and publicly promised to take responsibility if the El-Rufai administration failed to use it prudently.

According to the PDP, the governor cannot support and defend a loan and later distance himself from the financial burden arising from its repayment.

The party urged Sani to stop engaging in a blame game and instead explain how his administration plans to manage Kaduna State’s debt, protect essential services and reduce pressure on the state’s finances.

The PDP maintained that public records cannot be rewritten and called on the governor to focus on finding practical solutions to the state’s debt challenges.
