Nigeria’s newly appointed High Commissioner to India, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, has presented his Letters of Credence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.
During the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Dahiru conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill to President Murmu and pledged to strengthen the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and India.
The envoy said his priorities would include boosting trade and investment, attracting more Indian businesses to Nigeria, strengthening private-sector partnerships, and creating greater opportunities for Nigerian companies to access the Indian market.
President Murmu welcomed Dahiru and described Nigeria-India relations as being built on strong historical ties, mutual respect and shared interests. She noted that India remains an important business and trading partner for Nigeria and said there was significant potential to expand economic cooperation.
Murmu also acknowledged the contributions of Indian companies and investors to Nigeria’s economic development and called for stronger private-sector engagement between the two countries.
Dahiru said Nigeria attaches great importance to its relationship with India and described his appointment as both a privilege and a responsibility to advance Nigeria’s interests.
Both countries are expected to continue exploring opportunities in trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people relations.
