Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected Boko Haram member allegedly involved in the May 8, 2026, attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The suspect, identified as Musa Abdulhamid, 26, was reportedly arrested on August 4 while attempting to infiltrate the military facility in Buni Yadi.
According to security sources, preliminary investigations indicate that Abdulhamid admitted to participating in the attack on the military training institution. He allegedly identified three insurgent commanders—Mohammed, Mustapha, and Ismail—as those who coordinated the operation.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly revealed that the attack had been carefully planned over an extended period, with fighters hiding in bushes near Buni Gari before launching the assault. He also claimed that Boko Haram commanders usually keep operational details secret until shortly before an attack, after collecting fighters' mobile phones and assigning targets.
The suspect further stated that the group does not disclose casualty figures to lower-ranking members after operations. However, he estimated that more than ten insurgents were killed during the May attack, as many of the fighters who took part never returned to their camps.
Abdulhamid also admitted to carrying a firearm during the assault but said he could not identify the specific weapon. He added that Boko Haram fighters frequently move between different hideouts to evade security forces conducting counter-insurgency operations.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will undergo further investigation, profiling, and intelligence exploitation.
Security analysts believe information obtained from the suspect could help authorities better understand Boko Haram's command structure, operational planning, movement patterns, and tactics, strengthening ongoing efforts to combat insurgency in Nigeria's North-East.
The arrest comes as Nigerian troops continue sustained offensives against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups across the region, targeting their camps, logistics networks, and supply routes while intensifying intelligence-led operations to prevent future attacks.
