The Nigerian Army has commenced the 2026 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination (SSCQE), a key assessment for officers seeking advancement into senior military leadership positions.
The examination, which began on August 2, 2026, is being conducted simultaneously at the Nigerian Defence Academy Postgraduate School in Kaduna and the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State. It is scheduled to conclude on August 14, 2026.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Peter Malla, urged members of the examination panel to uphold professionalism, integrity, fairness, and transparency throughout the exercise.
He stressed that maintaining the credibility of the Army's examination process is essential, noting that the panel members were selected based on merit and competence. According to him, the qualifying examination plays a vital role in determining officers' eligibility for the Senior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, as well as other military institutions worldwide.
Major General Malla also commended the Chief of Army Staff for providing the necessary support for the successful conduct of the examination and reaffirmed TRADOC's commitment to achieving the objectives of the exercise.
The Commander of the Infantry Corps Centre, Major General Godwin Mutkut, assured participants that adequate administrative, logistical, and security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a smooth and secure examination. He emphasized that preserving the credibility of the SSCQE is crucial for developing future military leaders capable of addressing Nigeria's evolving security challenges.
