The Nigerian naira continued its positive run against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market, ending the week with a slight appreciation.
According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the naira strengthened to ₦1,357.61 per dollar on Friday, August 14, 2026, compared with ₦1,357.65 per dollar recorded on Thursday.
This represents a marginal daily appreciation of ₦0.04.
At the official market, the naira recorded a broader weekly gain of ₦8.08 against the dollar.
However, the currency remained unchanged at the parallel market, where the dollar traded at ₦1,425 on Friday, the same rate recorded on Thursday.
The latest development comes as Nigeria’s external reserves continued to rise, reaching $52.26 billion on Thursday, according to data from the CBN.
The naira has recorded several gains against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market in recent days, despite a single depreciation earlier in the week.
The continued strengthening of the naira and rising external reserves could provide some relief for businesses and consumers facing pressure from foreign exchange fluctuations.
