Business activities and communication were disrupted in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, following a major outage on the MTN network.
The disruption, which lasted for several hours on Thursday, prevented subscribers from making or receiving calls, sending SMS messages and accessing WhatsApp and other internet-based services through the network.
Checks in parts of Jalingo showed that attempts to make calls and use mobile data were unsuccessful, leaving many residents unable to communicate with relatives, customers and business associates.
The outage also affected commercial activities, with business owners reporting difficulties completing transactions and communicating with customers who depend on MTN services.
A spare-parts dealer, Uche Alexander, described the situation as unfortunate, saying the prolonged outage had caused significant financial losses to his business.
He appealed to MTN management to investigate the cause of the disruption and restore services to Jalingo and other affected areas.
Another resident, Paulina Kamuel, said the outage had caused serious inconvenience, particularly for businesses that rely heavily on telecommunications services.
She noted that many residents and businesses in Jalingo depend on MTN for their daily communication and commercial activities.
The disruption occurred as mobile telecommunications have become essential for banking transactions, business operations, social communication and access to online services.
As of the time of reporting, the exact cause of the outage remained unclear, while affected subscribers awaited the restoration of services.
The incident has renewed calls for telecommunications providers to strengthen network infrastructure and provide timely information to customers during major service disruptions.
