The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has welcomed a group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State into the party.
Announcing the development on his official X account on Sunday, the former Kano State governor described the defections as another step in strengthening the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Kwankwaso, the new members were warmly received and assured of equal opportunities and fair treatment within the party.
«“I was delighted to receive a group of defectors from Madobi Local Government who left the APC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress. I warmly welcomed them into our fold and assured them of fair and comfortable positions within our party. We continue to grow stronger, free from major distractions,” he said.»
Photos from the event showed Kwankwaso, dressed in his trademark white traditional attire and red-and-white cap, addressing supporters alongside the NDC's Kano Central Senatorial candidate, Nasiru Gawuna.
Large crowds of supporters, many wearing the signature red caps associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, were seen cheering and celebrating the arrival of the new party members.
The reception is viewed as part of the NDC's efforts to expand its political support in Kano State as campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
