Final-Year University Student Killed in Suspected Robbery Attack in Nasarawa

A final-year student of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Habiba Ummi Lele, has been killed after suspected armed robbers reportedly opened fire on a vehicle she was travelling in along a road in Nasarawa State.

According to reports, the 400-level Chemistry student was returning to Lafia after attending a friend's graduation ceremony at the College of Health and Technology in Keffi when the attack occurred. She was said to have died at the scene.

Habiba was laid to rest on Sunday, with family members, friends, community leaders, and members of the FULAFIA community gathering to pay their final respects. Officials, including the Chairman of Awe Local Government Area and a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, attended the funeral prayers.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing grief and calling for improved security across the country. Many also urged authorities to strengthen protection for travellers and students.

The killing comes just days after three first-year students of the Federal University of Lafia were reportedly abducted from an off-campus hostel in Lafia, raising fresh concerns over the safety of students in Nasarawa State.

Students, parents, and residents have called on security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to increase security patrols around student communities and major highways to prevent further attacks.

As of the time of the report, security authorities had not released an official statement on the robbery attack, while efforts to rescue the abducted students were said to be ongoing.
