The Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB) in Jigawa State has announced 100 per cent free tuition and school fees for newly admitted students studying B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Physics.
The university said the initiative is aimed at encouraging more Nigerian youths to study science-related courses and addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM).
According to a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, the fee waiver will cover tuition and other school charges throughout the students’ programme.
The university described the initiative as part of its community service efforts to make science education more accessible, particularly to students from northern Nigeria and other underserved areas.
The institution also said the policy was introduced to increase enrolment in core science programmes that often attract fewer students despite their importance to technological development and innovation.
Candidates who initially selected other courses or institutions but meet the admission requirements can also benefit from the programme. They have been advised to visit any JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to change their institution and course to FUT Babura.
The university urged interested candidates to contact its admissions office for more information, eligibility confirmation and guidance on the change-of-course process.
The tuition waiver takes effect immediately for the current admission cycle, the university stated.
