Jigawa Approves ₦53,853 Refund for Each 2026 Hajj Pilgrim

The Jigawa State Government has approved a refund of ₦53,853 for each resident who participated in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage after surplus funds from the exercise were returned.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Umar Labbo, while presenting the 2026 Hajj report to Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse.

According to Labbo, the board refunded ₦44.9 million in excess Hajj funds to the state government, leading to the approval of the refund for each pilgrim. An additional ₦27.2 million in unspent funds was also remitted to the state treasury.

Labbo described the 2026 Hajj operation as the most successful in the state's history, praising the Hajj Committee, chaired by the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu, for its leadership. He highlighted the introduction of eye care services for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia as one of the key achievements of this year's pilgrimage.

He also thanked the state government for providing a ₦3.4 billion loan that supported the smooth execution of the Hajj exercise, adding that pilgrims were accommodated close to the Holy Mosque in Makkah and received quality meals throughout their stay.

The Emir of Dutse urged the government to establish a permanent Hajj transit camp instead of relying on the NYSC orientation camp during pilgrimage preparations.

Governor Namadi commended the committee for its dedication and officially confirmed that every Jigawa pilgrim who performed the 2026 Hajj would receive the approved refund of approximately ₦55,000 as excess Hajj fare reimbursement.
