The Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria), in collaboration with the Muslim World League, is set to convene an international conference in Abuja to address national security, extremism and sustainable socio-economic development.
The International Conference on National Security for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development is scheduled to take place on August 12, 2026, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The conference is expected to bring together Islamic scholars, policymakers, security experts and international stakeholders to explore practical approaches to strengthening peace, stability and inclusive development in Nigeria and beyond.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to declare the conference open, while senior judicial officials, security experts and international delegates are expected to attend as guests of honour and keynote contributors.
According to the organisers, the conference is aimed at promoting dialogue, strengthening partnerships and developing sustainable strategies for addressing security challenges while advancing socio-economic development.
They said the partnership between JIBWIS Nigeria and the Muslim World League reflects a shared commitment to promoting diversity, social harmony, cooperation among communities and peaceful coexistence.
The organisers added that the initiative builds on previous engagements between Muslim and Christian leaders and reinforces the belief that religious and cultural diversity can contribute to national unity, stability and social progress.
The programme will feature high-level plenary sessions examining the relationship between national security and development within a global context.
Other sessions will focus on diversity and inclusive coexistence, while expert panels will discuss strategies for countering extremism and strengthening community resilience.
The conference will also feature global partnership roundtables designed to promote sustainable socio-economic development.
The organisers expressed optimism that the gathering would provide participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop practical solutions towards achieving lasting peace, stability and sustainable development.
