A Nigerian national has been deported from Indonesia after failing to provide immigration authorities with a valid travel document or residence permit.
The Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre in Indonesia’s Riau Islands Province confirmed that the Nigerian was among two foreign nationals deported on Tuesday, August 18, through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang.
According to Indonesian authorities, the Nigerian violated Article 71(b) of the country’s Immigration Law by being unable to present the required travel or residence documents.
Before his deportation, he was detained at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre while authorities verified his identity and completed the necessary travel documentation.
An immigration official, I Wayan Putu Wiadnya, said the deportation was an administrative measure taken against foreigners who violated Indonesian immigration regulations.
The Nigerian was deported alongside a Palestinian national, who was reportedly removed from the country for overstaying his permitted period of stay.
The Head of the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, Erybowo Radyan Asmono, said the deportations were part of Indonesia’s efforts to enforce immigration laws and regulate the presence of foreign nationals in the country.
He stressed that all foreigners in Indonesia are required to comply with the country’s immigration laws and that violations could result in appropriate administrative action.
