China has dismissed the United States' decision to blacklist dozens of Chinese companies over alleged forced labour in the Xinjiang region, describing the move as baseless and harmful to global trade.
In a statement issued on Saturday, China's Ministry of Commerce said the US had no factual evidence to support its claims and accused Washington of using domestic laws to impose unilateral sanctions on Chinese businesses.
The ministry said the restrictions amount to economic coercion, unfairly targeting Chinese companies and disrupting the stability of global supply chains.
Beijing also reiterated its longstanding position that there is no forced labour in Xinjiang, insisting the region remains stable, prosperous and respectful of workers' rights.
China urged the United States to stop what it called the politicisation of Xinjiang-related issues and warned that it would take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its companies.
The response follows a US decision announced on Friday to add 43 Chinese firms to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List, effectively banning imports linked to those companies over allegations of human rights abuses involving Uyghurs and other minority groups in Xinjiang.
The US maintains that the restrictions are aimed at preventing goods produced through forced labour from entering its market, while China continues to reject the allegations as unfounded.
