A charter plane has crashed at a remote radar facility in western Alaska, killing all eight people on board, according to the United States military.
The civilian-contracted Cessna 441, operated by Anchorage-based Security Aviation, crashed west of Cape Newenham LRRS Airport at about 20:15 GMT on Thursday, the US Federal Aviation Administration said.
Rescuers who reached the crash site confirmed that there were no survivors, according to the Alaskan Command.
The military did not immediately disclose what the passengers were doing at the radar facility, which monitors aircraft operating in Alaskan airspace.
The Alaskan Command said it was investigating the crash and would release the identities of those killed after their families had been notified.
“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” said Alaskan Command chief Robert Davis.
He described the victims as dedicated professionals carrying out an important mission in a challenging environment.
Clint Johnson, the Alaska regional chief of the National Transportation Safety Board, said the aircraft was carrying two pilots and six passengers.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the crash.
