Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty,” has been honoured in the United Kingdom with a London bus stop named after her.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) announced the recognition on Thursday while congratulating Orojuogun on the achievement.
NiDCOM Chairman and CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the honour as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride for Nigeria and Nigerians living abroad.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, Orojuogun’s story shows how passion, authenticity and positive representation of one’s heritage can make an impact beyond Nigeria.
Orojuogun became popular through engaging social media videos featuring London’s famous red buses. She uses her platforms to showcase everyday life in London while sharing her love for the city’s transport system with her followers.
NiDCOM said her unique personality and content have enabled her to connect with many people and bring joy to audiences through her videos.
Dabiri-Erewa praised the Nigerian-born nurse for positively representing Nigerians in the UK and promoting a positive image of the Nigerian diaspora.
She also commended Transport for London (TfL) for recognising Orojuogun’s contribution and celebrating her connection with the city’s transport community.
The NiDCOM chairman said the recognition highlights the contributions Nigerians continue to make in different fields and communities around the world.
She encouraged Orojuogun to see the honour as motivation to continue using her platform positively and described her achievement as a source of pride for Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Orojuogun and wished her continued success.
