The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Immigration Service have pledged to strengthen cooperation on border security, migration management and responses to emerging security threats in Yobe State.
The commitment was made on Wednesday when the Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Edet Effiong, received the newly posted Comptroller of the NIS Yobe State Command, Comptroller I.Z. Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to the Sector Headquarters in Damaturu.
Effiong stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies to maintain security along Nigeria’s borders.
He said effective information sharing, coordinated border surveillance and closer engagement with border communities were essential to tackling terrorism, human trafficking, smuggling and irregular migration.
The Sector Commander said a well-coordinated security system was necessary to prevent criminal and terrorist groups from exploiting gaps along the border.
He added that Operation HADIN KAI was prepared to support closer cooperation with the Immigration Service and other security agencies.
Effiong also highlighted the importance of improved coordination, professionalism and the appropriate use of technology to strengthen border monitoring and operational effectiveness.
He further called for stronger cooperation with border communities to help security agencies identify threats and improve security measures.
In response, Comptroller Abubakar commended the Nigerian Army for its continued support and cooperation with the Immigration Service.
He pledged that the NIS would deepen its existing partnership with the military, improve personnel capacity and strengthen operational readiness to enhance border security operations across Yobe State.
Abubakar also promised to improve border surveillance and migration control, stressing that the agency remained committed to working with the military and other security stakeholders.
Both officials agreed on the need for closer coordination, better information sharing and collective action to secure Nigeria’s borders and protect border communities.
The meeting ended with the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI and the Immigration Service to working together to secure Nigeria’s borders and promote peace and stability across Yobe State and the wider North-East.
