18-Year-Old Attacks Swedish School With Sword, Killing One and Injuring Two.

An 18-year-old armed with a sword attacked a school in central Sweden on Friday, killing one person and seriously injuring two others, police said. 

The attack happened at Brinell School in Fagersta, northwest of Stockholm, while classes were in session. The school had about 400 to 500 students at the time.

Police arrested the 18-year-old suspect at the scene. Shots were reportedly fired during the arrest. Authorities said there was no immediate indication that more than one attacker was involved.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and police are continuing their investigation, including examining available security-camera footage.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed condolences to those affected, describing the incident as a serious act of violence that occurred shortly after the summer break.

Local authorities established a crisis center near the school to support students, staff and others affected by the attack. Police, firefighters and medical personnel were also deployed to the scene.
