Two mosques in the occupied West Bank were set ablaze overnight in what officials described as an apparent attack by Israeli settlers, amid rising violence that has heightened tensions across the region.
The affected mosques, located in the villages of Qusra and Kour, suffered extensive damage. In Qusra, attackers reportedly spray-painted slogans referencing a recently killed Israeli soldier and messages claiming the land would be "redeemed with blood."
A resident living near the Qusra mosque said he was awakened by suspicious noises around 3 a.m. and discovered the building engulfed in flames. Unable to contain the fire alone, he called for help. He also claimed Israeli security personnel arrived at the scene but later departed.
Security camera footage from Kour reportedly captured three individuals in civilian clothing detonating an explosive device at the entrance of the mosque before the fire broke out.
The attacks followed a deadly weekend in which four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers were killed. Israeli authorities have since increased military operations across the West Bank, closed several major roads, and arrested more than 70 Palestinians as part of efforts to curb the violence.
The Israeli military condemned the mosque attacks, while Palestinian leaders and Israeli opposition figures accused the government of failing to prevent settler violence, warning that continued unrest could further destabilize the occupied territory.
