The military conflict between the United States and Iran entered its fifth day on Thursday, with both sides launching new attacks across the region amid rising fears of a wider Middle East war.
According to reports, the US military carried out another wave of strikes targeting Iranian military positions, coastal defense systems, missile sites, and command facilities aimed at reducing Iran's ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran claimed it launched missiles and drones targeting US military assets in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Jordan's military said it intercepted and destroyed eight Iranian missiles before they reached their targets, while Bahrain and Kuwait also activated air defense systems following reported drone threats.
The United States also intensified its naval blockade around Iranian ports, disabling an empty oil tanker that was reportedly heading toward Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export terminal. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has remained significantly reduced, raising concerns over global oil supplies and energy prices.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering expanding military operations, including possible strikes on additional Iranian strategic infrastructure. However, Iranian officials insisted they have no plans to negotiate with Washington and warned they would respond with even stronger attacks if further US strikes continue.
Separately, President Trump announced that American citizen Dena Karari, who had been unable to leave Iran since late 2024, has been released and is now safely outside the country.
The escalating conflict has also raised humanitarian concerns, with reports of civilian casualties, damage to hospitals and residential areas, and growing international calls for restraint to prevent a broader regional war.
