UN Chief Calls for Immediate Removal of All Sanctions on Syria

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the immediate lifting of all sanctions imposed on Syria during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad.

Speaking at a press conference in Damascus on Sunday after concluding a two-day visit to the country, Guterres welcomed recent efforts to ease some restrictions but stressed that all remaining sanctions should be removed without delay.

"I welcome steps that have eased sanctions and opened new opportunities for economic recovery, but all these sanctions must be removed immediately," Guterres said.

The UN chief's remarks come as Syria's new leadership seeks to rebuild the country's economy and restore international relations following years of conflict and political transition. Guterres emphasized that removing sanctions would support humanitarian efforts, economic recovery, and long-term stability for the Syrian people.
