Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, has directed troops of Operation Fansan Yamma and other military formations operating across the North-West to launch a more aggressive offensive against armed bandits following renewed attacks in Zamfara State.
The directive came as the minister sympathized with victims of recent attacks in Bungudu and other affected communities, assuring residents that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and security across the region.
The renewed order follows recent attacks in which several police officers were killed and a local government chairman was abducted by bandits in Zamfara.
Matawalle instructed military commanders to intensify operations across Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states, urging troops to dismantle criminal networks through decisive and lawful operations.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence on suspected bandits and their collaborators.
The minister directed commanders in high-risk areas to strengthen surveillance, increase patrols, and destroy terrorist hideouts before they can be used to launch further attacks.
Matawalle commended the Armed Forces and other security personnel for their courage and professionalism, praising recent operations that reportedly neutralized several bandits in Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka, Tsafe, and Faskari.
He urged troops to sustain the momentum until terrorism and banditry are completely defeated, while expressing confidence in the military's efforts to restore lasting peace across Nigeria's North-West.
