The United Kingdom has temporarily withdrawn its remaining diplomatic staff from Iran as security concerns intensify following the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States.
In a statement released on Thursday, the UK's Foreign Office said the move was made due to the worsening security situation, adding that the British Embassy in Iran will continue to operate remotely.
The latest withdrawal follows an earlier reduction of embassy staff in June, when Britain joined several European countries, along with Australia and New Zealand, in scaling back their diplomatic presence in Iran after renewed Israeli airstrikes heightened regional tensions.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has also reiterated its travel advisory, urging British nationals to avoid all travel to Iran. Citizens currently in the country have been advised to carefully assess the risks of remaining there.
The British government did not disclose the number of diplomats affected by the latest evacuation.
Meanwhile, British couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman remain imprisoned in Iran after being convicted on espionage charges, which they strongly deny. According to their family, Craig Foreman recently received an additional two-year prison sentence for speaking to the media.
The UK says it will continue to monitor developments closely while maintaining diplomatic operations remotely until the security situation improves.
