Russia Warns US Against Further Arms Supplies to Ukraine During Manila Talks

Russia has warned the United States against continuing arms deliveries to Ukraine during talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila.

According to Russia's Foreign Ministry, Lavrov told Rubio that further weapons supplies to Kyiv were "unacceptable" and urged Washington to support a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict.

Following the 30-minute meeting, Rubio described the discussions as "good" and "frank," saying the United States remains committed to seeking a peaceful resolution to the war. He noted that US policy on military assistance has not changed and explained that Ukraine continues to receive American-made weapons through purchases by NATO allies under the PURL initiative.

Rubio stressed that lasting peace would require an agreement acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine, adding that significant diplomatic efforts remain necessary.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed he had spoken with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about reviving peace negotiations, describing the talks as productive and focused on bringing the conflict closer to an end.

The meeting came as Washington's foreign policy attention has increasingly shifted toward the conflict in the Middle East, although both sides also discussed regional tensions during the Manila talks.

The war continues to intensify, with Russian airstrikes reportedly killing three people in eastern Ukraine, while Ukrainian attacks claimed four lives in Russia and Russian-annexed Crimea, according to local authorities.
