The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three employees of the state Ministry of Labour, Empowerment and Productivity for allegedly stealing government equipment valued at about N500 million.
Police said the suspects allegedly conspired to remove several government-owned assets from the ministry's store, including a 110 KVA Perkins generator, a forklift, lathe machines, electric filing machines, and other equipment.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the investigation began after ministry officials discovered the items were missing during an inspection of the storage facility.
He explained that the inspection was conducted on June 22, 2026, after which a petition was submitted to the Commissioner of Police, who directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to investigate the matter.
The arrested suspects were identified as Wadi Igiran (51), Nikade Sunday (59), and Azabia Yakie (59), all staff members of the ministry.
Police said the suspects have allegedly confessed to the crime, while the stolen forklift has been recovered from the alleged receiver and is now in the custody of the SCID.
The command said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, reaffirming its commitment to protecting government property and prosecuting those involved in economic and property-related crimes.
