Iran launched fresh missile and drone attacks on several Gulf countries on Saturday after the United States carried out a seventh consecutive night of airstrikes targeting Iranian military facilities, further escalating tensions in the region.
According to Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, where US military assets are stationed. Iran also claimed to have struck a US base in Jordan and destroyed several American aircraft, although these claims have not been independently verified.
Kuwait confirmed that an Iranian attack damaged a power generation and water desalination plant, while operations at Kuwait International Airport were temporarily suspended because of ongoing missile and drone threats.
The US military said its latest wave of strikes hit Iranian surveillance systems, military logistics sites, underground weapons storage facilities, and maritime capabilities as part of its continued campaign against Iran.
The conflict has also affected civilian infrastructure. Iranian media reported that missile strikes damaged power facilities and desalination pumps in the southern city of Jask, leaving thousands of residents without water. The United Nations expressed concern over the increasing attacks on civilian infrastructure across the region.
Meanwhile, oil prices climbed more than 4% to their highest level in over a month as fears grew over possible disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies.
The latest developments come one week after a ceasefire between the United States and Iran collapsed, raising fears of a wider regional conflict involving Gulf nations and key international shipping routes.
