Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has launched the Iru Ekun Security Network in Kwara State, promising to help drive bandits and other criminal groups out of forests across the state.
Speaking during the inauguration of the outfit in Ilorin, Igboho said the security network was created to support the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and other security agencies in combating kidnapping, banditry, and violent crimes.
He announced that the group's first operations would focus on Babanla and Eruku, communities that have experienced repeated security threats. According to him, the presence of the security outfit has already caused concern among criminal groups operating in the area.
Igboho dismissed reports suggesting that Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq opposed his visit, saying he believed the governor shared the desire to improve security in the state.
He emphasized that the Iru Ekun Security Network is not intended to replace existing security agencies but to work alongside them through intelligence sharing and community support.
The activist also rejected claims that the outfit was established to target any ethnic group, stressing that its mission is to confront criminals regardless of their background.
Igboho urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information about criminal activities instead of taking the law into their own hands. He added that the security initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve public safety and expressed support for President Bola Tinubu's administration.
The Iru Ekun Security Network is expected to begin operations in selected parts of Kwara State in collaboration with recognized security agencies.
