Student Hostel Collapses in Anambra, Several Feared Trapped

Residents of Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State were thrown into panic late Sunday after a multi-storey student hostel collapsed, with several occupants feared trapped beneath the rubble.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion-like sound was heard moments before the building gave way, prompting students and nearby residents to rush to the scene in an attempt to rescue those trapped.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed emergency responders, local volunteers, and community members working together to clear the debris as search-and-rescue operations continued.

As of the time of reporting, authorities had not confirmed the number of casualties, injuries, or people trapped. The cause of the building collapse also remains unknown.
