African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to reverse the naming of highways, public institutions, and other national assets after President Bola Tinubu and other serving public officials if he is elected Nigeria's president in the 2027 general election.
Sowore made the pledge in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, following the Federal Government's decision to rename the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Tinubu.
According to him, any public infrastructure named after officials of the current administration would be restored to neutral or more appropriate names under his government.
His comments came after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway had officially been renamed the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway. Umahi said the decision was taken to honour Tinubu's long-standing vision for the project, which he traced back to the President's tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
The minister also revealed that President Tinubu approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, increasing its total length from 700 kilometres to 1,100 kilometres, alongside the reconstruction of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other major road projects across the country.
Sowore, who has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, has also proposed major reforms in the education sector. He recently announced plans to abolish the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and replace the current National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme with a voluntary two-year National Job Corps focused on employment, entrepreneurship, and practical skills.
