Troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued nine kidnapped victims, recovered 56 stolen livestock, and arrested a suspected terrorist during separate security operations in Katsina State.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the operation's spokesperson, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out across different parts of the state following credible intelligence.
The rescued victims, made up of three women, four men, and two children, were freed during a fighting patrol by troops of Sector 2 in Faskari Local Government Area. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had been abducted by terrorists on July 9, 2026, along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in Zamfara State.
The victims told security personnel they managed to escape after their captors fell asleep before they were found and rescued by the troops. They are currently receiving care and will be reunited with their families after the necessary procedures.
In a separate operation in Bakori Local Government Area, troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock. The suspects reportedly opened fire after spotting the soldiers but fled into nearby bushes when they were overpowered.
The troops recovered 56 rustled animals, including four cattle and 52 sheep, which remain in military custody pending handover to the appropriate authorities.
Meanwhile, another operation in Danmusa Local Government Area led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist. Military authorities said items recovered from the suspect suggest possible links to terrorist activities, and investigations are ongoing.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed the military's commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations aimed at eliminating terrorism and other criminal activities across the North-West.
